Exhaust not coming out of prop

I have a 1978 115 evinrude 115hp. After alot of work and getting the boat to run right i have noticed exhaust is not coming out of the center of the prop. Am i right or wrong but i think it's suppose to. Any help please.

Most of the exhaust should exit the prop under normal operating conditions.

There are several seals that need to be in place, especially the large one between the gearcase and the inner exhaust housing, #0320961.

thank i think i figured i out i put a water pump in i mite not have got that lower gasket in right cuz i can hear the water bubbling down in there i think i fudged up

Use whatever sealer you have, even masking tape, to keep that seal in place until you have the lower unit tightened up. After the unit is tightly connected, the seal should stay where you put it.
