I am looking at buying a 26ft Grady White with two 200hp Johnson ocean runners on it, I would like to know if these engines are reliable and good engines. They have about 380hours I am told. I am a little leary because of the age of the engines. Also I would like to know compatible tthey are with E10 fuel. The carbs have not been rebuilt that I am aware of.
Thanks for any help.

i would perform a comperssion test on the engines, that will tell you what type of shape they are in, 380 hours, wow that sounds like a lot for any engine.

what ive heard is that ethonal gas (crap) isnt good for any outboard nomatter how old nor moderin

as far as carbs i dont think you normally have any problems unless they have had bad gas/ trash ran through them, then they get cloged and you have to unclog them and rebuild/replace orings and gaskets. (im just learning tho, so waint untill some one else says so)

The ethanol is not the issue. Those motors have fuel system components that will work with it. Check the compression, and if it is good, you should be OK.

I don't think 380 hours is too much BTW.

Re: 1996 200 ocean runners

Thanks for the replys. I am definitely going to have a compression test on them and have the lower units vacuum checked. The water pumps need changing. Any idea how much for the parts for this. I am retired coast guard reserve and can handle getting them apart and replacing the water pumps but don't have a lot of experience with these engines. Any querks I should know about?
Thanks for the help, really appreciate it!
