Hello,
Newbie here. It is a pleasure to be a part of one of the best Internet forums on the planet! After years of reading this (and being "bailed out" by get it?) I'm here to ask for help. I have a 1998 150 Mariner Opti (serial 0G750329) that has tossed a rod and gifted me with a heap of recycleable aluminum!
I have located on the Boston list (begins with a "C") a brand new 175HP Mercury Opti. It is a long block (part #879809t01) Most places are selling these at list which varies from 7-8k. They're asking 5999.
My questions are (I used an on line micro-fiche that tells me the Mariner 150 and Mercury 175 Opti long blocks have the same part number.
*Has anyone made this swap?
*Is the HP difference in the fuel and EMM's?
*Why is it (besides the fact I'm supplying the motor) mechanics run the other way (almost as fast as when the Snap-On truck pulls up) when I ask for the job to be done at their shop.
*Any idea on Flat Rate time?
*Is this a 3 day job? (3x8 = 24 hours x $90.00 per = $2.160.00.)
So my math says
$2,160.00 labor
$5,500.00 (I'm hoping) motor
$1,000.00 ancillary items
$8,660.00
Is this worth it? I have a 22' center console SeaSwirl that flew with the 150.

A little detective work tells me both engines have the same part number for the base gasket. If all this stuff lines up I'm assuming we're on the right road! Anyone?????????????????
