Hey guys, I just purchased a new 15 hp Mercury outboard today and am so excited to get out on the lake tomorrow and try it out. First of all I have read through the owners manual, but I cannot find the answer to this question in there: how much oil does it take?? It came with 1 liter of 10w-30 but I do not know how much of this I need to pour in. Also, do I need to add the oil, run the engine for a minute, then check the oil (like you do on a car) or do I just add the oil, let the motor sit for 10 minutes cold, and then check the dipstick? Thanks!

It should say in your owners manual how much it takes in the section that talks about the type of oil to use. I know with my mower motors it sometimes doesn't say there but will say the oil capacity in the engine specs area where it talks about displacement and bore and stuff like that.

You should check the oil level first. Maybe it already has oil in it and they included a courtesy bottle.

So far every motor I bought came filled with oil already.

Ok yea I found in the manual that it does take 1 liter to fill to the midpoint on the dipstick. The guy at the shop I bought it from said that they put oil in them to test them, then drain it for shipping. I just added the whole liter and it appears to be just slightly above the top line on the dipstick, hopefully it will go down in a few minutes as the oil goes through the engine.
