my friend has a 1968 evinrude sportwin 9.5 that runs great in the barrel when the hood is off but as soon as we put the hood on, it wants to stall. rpms dont matter and its almost instant. we did a visual inspection looking for an exhaust leak, but we cant see any leak. the passive air vents on the operator side are free and clean. With the engine running and hood on, we can confirm that no exhaust is being sucked into these vents. Looking for ideas as to what could be causing this. I'm quietly thinking exhaust leak- but from where? for as quickly as it wants to die, i figure i should see some sign of a leak under the hood but nothing. Help.....
