Welcome to iboats!

Someone told you nonesense. There is nothing wrong with running only one motor when you have twins. Water can not be forced up in to the powerhead of your second motor this way. Even if it could, it would not cause damage.

I have twin 70hp evinrudes (only one is installed at the moment). What type of boat do you have and can you post some pictures of your setup?

Cheers

I'm thinking the impeller would prevent this issue as it's not turning on the engine that's off and therefore blocking the passage of water?

One other thought - if you do a lot of trolling I'd alternate which motor I was running just so the total hours remains about even across both units.
