Recently aquired a 20ft Storm bass boat with a 96 200 merc on the back. Motor was running poorly and found some chipped reeds to be the problem. Took the boat for a run and could turn 6200 rpms at 65mph and still had more to go. I have been told the max rpm on this motor is supposed to be 5600. The prop on it now is a quicksiler trophy 4 blade 14x26p. Do I need to go bigger and if so what prop should I try?? Also I had the jack plate buried all the way down!

Re: 96 Merc. 200 prop????

Nobody has any ideas? Storm has gps'd this same hull with a optimax 225 at 80+ mph I really can't believe that the 200 would be that far behind it. Any thoughts on what prop would be more aggresive than the one I have would be appretiated.

Re: 96 Merc. 200 prop????

Why run the plate all the way down??? Need to know what max is before trying to guess at a prop.
The 96 200 and an Opti 225 are 2 quite different set-ups.
Do we know the tach is accurate?
Our Ranger 519VX w/ Rude 200HO and 4X23p runs (ran) about 68 at 5950 with 2 on board with tourney load.
I'd have to find you gear ratio to figure slip but I find it hard to believe the 26P will turn that high on that size of boat with the plate clear down.
List your gear ratio if you know what it is...I think we can fix ya up but we need a couple of KNOWN variables.
