I have a 1999 2 stroke 90hp mercury. When I am out of the water it will start after playing with it for a little but in the water it will not start. I messed witht the fuses for 2 hours on the water and nothing. I replaced them all at my house and it fired right up...2 hours later in the water it wouldnt start. I hit the key and it turns over one time and dies. Any one know what the problem is?

Apparently the problem is that it wont start. You will need to give much more info for anyone to determine what the problem might be.

We need a little history of the engine, how long has it sat, when was it last running properly, has any repairs or modifications been done.

Anything you can tell us will be helpful in finding your problem.

And what's your starting procedure? Like, "pump bulb, lift warm-up lever, turn key while tapping choke". Well... that's mine. :) What's yours?

Intermittent, corroded connection, solenoid or starter is my guess.

Check the battery cables for good clean connection on both ends, engine & battery. Odds are it's a positional issue. Does the tilt/ trim still work in the water?
