My 1974 works like this;

Rear Seat
seat just lifts out
then push down on the seat back and it will come out
then the frame is screwed into the deck.

Front Seat

seat just lifts out
engine case is removed allowing the back panels of the seat to be removed.
ski pylon (attached to engine) can be removed.
then the seat back along with the frame, can be removed by unscrewing a few screws in the deck.

Thanks but I have tried pushing it down and it does not move - perhaps I need a 300 lb gorrilla

There are 3 s/s screws buried in the vinyl pleats on the rear seat back. Spread the center seam apart with your fingers and look for a small cut in the vinyl. Use a #2 phillips screw driver to locate the screw and remove. You're done! Mike
