I picked up a cheap one wire self exciting altinator or $68 on line and picked up a good chrome altinator slip braket for just over $20 at my local O'Rilleys and this is what I came up with. It works very well.

The braket

The first step was to relocate the coil. I mounted it with a bolt for the oil cooler on the under side of the intake, so the coil sits behind the intake now.

The next step was to mount the sapport leg of the bracket. I got lucky with this becaue the mounting holes in the braket allow it to be mounted using two bolts of the front cover and it slips behine the hose for the coolant impeller.

Once the leg was mounted I could see if the pullies lined up. On the altinator I got they didnt, so I had to do a little modification to the altinator. The mounting hole on the altinator was to long so I used a cutting blad on a angle grinder to cut it down to the size i needed. You can see in the photo i had to remove about a half an inch to get it to line up.

Now that the altinator is mounted I needed to figure out how to mount the slip mount.

The origional slip mount had two mounting location, the front one had to be removed along with a good amount of the side of he bracket to allwo it to fit next to the power steering pump. The black line shows where the cut was made.

The rear mounting leg, I had to twist so that I could bolt it to the engine using one of the bolts for the intake.

Now I bolted it to the engine using the top front bolt for the head, but I needed it futher to the side so a longer bolt and one of the spacers that came with the kit allowed me to do that. Once it is bolted to the intake it should sit agaist the power steering pump when the pump is pulled all they way over as it would be to tighten the belt.

Now the altinator can be bolted into the slip braket and the belt put on i used string pulled around the pullies to get the size i needed for the belt and took it to my local hardware store to get the belt, it is a mower belt that did the trick. Now since the power steering pump is against the braket the altinator is used to tension the belt instead of the pump. I found that the pump must be up against the braket or it will allow the altinator braket to flex allowing the belt to bounce, because there is nothing holding the front of the slip braket from bending, but with the pump against it it stops it from bending.

I did it this way because I was trying to come up with a method that would be around a $100 and not need alot of fab work. This way could be done with a hack saw if need be and some vice-grips if that all you had.

Seems the v-belt you are using is the wrong width, maybe even the wrong degree V, it looks like it sits too high in the pulley. All in all it looks like you did some good thinking to solve the prob.

I bet vibration cracks the brackets.
