Wanting to get a kicker motor for my boat. Will I need to get a kicker bracket or can I just hang it on the transom?

Depends on the type and shape of the transom.

Yeah, 12V no problem at all, gas depends.

Re: Kicker motor.

I am putting it on a 1989 18ft alumacraft. I fish the mississipi river by st louis for catfish. Last year the coast guard had to rescue me when I spun a hub. I don't want to be stranded again. I found a guy on craigslist who will sell me a kicker bracket for 60 bucks. I will probaly be getting it tomorrow. I am looking to by a 4 or 6 hp gas kicker motor will that be enough for the mean current of the river? below is a link to a pic of my transom.

Re: Kicker motor.

Fixed your link. Doesn't appear you have room on the transom to hang the kicker without a bracket.

I would think one of these type of deals would work well for you

Re: Kicker motor.

I suggest a 9.9 or 15,they are light enough ,but powerhouses, the weight wont be too much more than an 8hp,Also,might even slip onto your transom.Light enogh that you might want to store it forward somewhere until needed, for weight distriution.I love those engines ,had a few of them, but ,get one with the CD ignition ,not the older than 76??? that uses points
