The shift rod maybe disconnected. Has anyone had the lower unit off recently?

What is your model number?
Does it have an electric shift lower unit?
If it does have an electric shift lower unit, you most likely have a shift switch, wiring or lower unit problem.

Re: my 100hp Johson won't shift

If it truly is from the early 1960's it must be an Electramatic shift. If that is true, you must have a wiring or switch problem, most likely a broken shift switch in the remote control. ---OR---if the lower unit is full of water and rust, the ball game is over.

However if it is newer than you think and from the 1970's, it would be a Hydro-Electric shift. Now we are getting a lot more complicated. There are volumes written here about those.

So, you see we need a positive ID in order to give you any more advice.
