You also might check the condition of the coils. Make sure the insulation isn't cracked. If these ignition systems are reconditioned right, they deliver enough spark to send a bull elephant flying across the street and make the motor easy to start. I hear guys on here say that the 54 model like you have is a great motor and has good power for a 10hp.
