My Evinrude trolling motors has suddenly stopped running. The connectors to it (past the plug) show 12V, but when the button on the foot controller is depressed, the reading goes to 0. Is this a short or something that can be repaired?
More likely a dead battery. If it was a short circuit you would blow a fuse or trip a circuit breaker (provided the boat is wired with one). If it has neither of these you would have smoke. The presence of 12 volts with no load is meaningless. Charge the battery.
