Hi, all. I've been getting great info from the forums for a few weeks now, but I have a porblem I hope you can help with. I just bought a 91 wellcraft 233 eclipse a few weeks ago. When I went to look at it, it fired right up. We took it out on the water and while underway, it died. But fired right back up. We ran it for another 15 minutes with no other issues. The engine (5.7L carb'd merc) and the stern drive (alpha 1 gen II) were rebuilt 2 years ago and have only been run for about 5 hours since then. I bought the boat and went to fire it up last weekend. It cranked and cranked and cranked, but wouldn't fire. I put a new ignition coil in because the OHM reading were slightly off. Went to fire it and still wouldn't turn over. I put a spark tester on it and didn't get a spark at one of the plugs. I let it sit overnight and it fired right up. Put a full tank of gas in it and let it run for about an hour. All was fine.
I took it out in the river and got about 2 miles out when all of a sudden it died. I tried cranking it off and on for about 30 minutes. I happened to have the spark tester with me and again, no spark. When I got home last night, I put the battery charger on since I used a lot of juice cranking it over and over. When I got up this morning, I tried to fire it up on the first crank.
Anyone had this happen before? Any ideas? Distributor??? Does this model have an ECM? if so, where is it? I've looked at a ton of posts and don't see any issues like I have. Your help is appreciated.
Thanks
Eric
