starter removal

have 1987 sea sprite with 3.0 liter omc inboard motor with cobra out board need to replace starter has 2 bolts to remove but one on inside hard to get too can not see or feel it just wandering can u get to this bolt and remove starter without having to lift out engine any assistance greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard!

How hard it is to access depends upon the boat of course.

You might try a thin wall deep well socket.

Some can be near impossible to get to. A buddy with a long skinny arm sometimes works..;)

I have had to pull the engine to change the starter on some boats.
Like already said it depends on how the boat was designed.

Once you get the old starter off get new bolts,never use the old ones.

Once you get the old starter off get new bolts,never use the old ones.

DON'T use regular bolts though! You need starter bolts. They have a knurl just below the head for grounding.
