i have a 1956 evinrude lark, it has ran great for the last two years until just recently. The engine will start and run for 10 to 20 seconds then it reve's up high and shuts off. It will continue to idle if consistently pump the primer. After it takeing apart carburator and looking at it is in good working or i believe it is the rev limit switch. where can i get a replacement and/ or a part number or more modern year that will work. Or am i totally wrong and it could be something else. As well as where can i find a carb rebuild kit for that year 56' 30hp?

If you have to pump the primer to keep it running it sounds like you tank will not hold pressure or the line that supplies the pressure is leaking. Check the hose and the fitting on the block.

I thought that was the problem originally I replaced the tank w my fishing boat tank and the fuel and air lines and still same problem ENGINE STARTS RUNS THEN REVS UP HIGH THEN DIES. I know the tank is good I have used it on my fishing boat. Are we sure that its not the rev limiter switch? I dont want to have to put it back together for nothing

revving up and dying is usually an indication of 'running out of gas'. the revving is a lean condition. I would guess after it dies, there is no more fuel in the carb. Look for fuel delivery issues.

IF it has the little filter in the glass bowl, take it out. Sometimes the filters get stopped up and can't really be cleaned very easily. It does sound like fuel starvation for sure. Could be the other things mentioned for sure.
Nice motor,

Is the gas cap on tight? Sounds like pressure is not building up to push the fuel back to the engine and then fuel is running out.

After 20 seconds of running, open the gas cap. Is there pressure inside that gets released? I bet not.

Remember, this is a pressurized system, there is no fuel pump (unless it has been converted) and thus the air pressure from the engine pushes the gas to the engine. Thus there can be no air leaks for the fuel to get to the engine. You pumping the primer is manually pumping the gas to the engine.

Is the tank off your fishing boat a dual line tank?

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)
