Recently I've been getting 26 MPH at about 4400 RPM.The other day was only getting about 20 MPH at 4800 RPM. Same load on boat. Additionally, when I move the throttle level to WOT, the motor will accelerate a little then eventually (more than normal period of time) will accelerate to wide open. Any ideas as to what may be the problem? Obviously, I have a limited knowledge of boat motors.....Thanks...Rick

Sounds like a spun prop hub.

Re: 1999 Mercury 115 HP EXLPTO high RPM low speed

It doesn't appear that a spun prop was the problem. New hub pressed in....just now had an opportunity to run the boat. Tach still showing high RPM but the speed is still low. Noticed that although the tach was showing 4800 RPM and the speed was only about 11 MPH, The motor didn't sound at all like it was running at 4800 RPM. Is there some sort of check I can do to see if the tach is operating correctly or are there any ideas as to what the problem may be???
