Hi there. I have a 1996 scarab with a 4.3 and a alpha one drive. Last week i replaced the engine. Ive since had the boat out a few times and the thing is running great. Everything seems to be good except now im getting a good amount of vibration. The outdive went on with ease and the engine seems to be sitting in the same place as before. Is poor engine alignment a possible culprit or may there be some other explanition.

Re: Bad Vibration

nope, dont have one
Well, u need one. Pull the drive, check the u-joints for slop & line up the engine coupler with the gimbal bearing. The tool can found on ebay for around $50.

Out of alignment definitely could be the problem. When you pull the OD check the u joints which could also be the problem.

Re: Bad Vibration

is the harmonic balance new as well....or did it come from the other motor. Might be bad or wrong balance if you swapped

Re: Bad Vibration

I actually used a short block from a s-10 pick up. The harmonic balancer i used is from the orginal boat motor...

Re: Bad Vibration

Pull the outdrive and run the engine, see if the vibration goes away. If so you found the answer...

Always,Always,Always use an alignment tool EVERY time you pull the drive. You spent all this time and money replacing engine and you could end up destroying your gimbal bearing and or coupler do to the lack of performing a ten minute procedure...
