I like the old OMCs. New outboards considering everything Yamaha would be my choice.
I have a 2000 Johnson 70 on my boat.

Re: Your favorite brand of outboard

I've owned three Evinrudes (6, 25, 135), a Mercury (85), and a Johnson (25). I still have the Evinrude 6 (1968) and the Johnson 25 (1977). They are still reliable. Considering your question my favorite brand would be OMC, with plenty of respect for Mercury. If I had an unlimited budget and was in the market for a new outboard I'd like to try a Johnson. The e-tech power is impressive and 2-stroke power to weight will always be an advantage on a boat.

Re: Your favorite brand of outboard

To be totally honest, I have never had anything except Mercury. I have had a '67 650, '69 1250, '71 1350, '74 1500, '79 115, '79 140, and now a '84 90 Mariner. I have towed in every other make of outboard and a few inboards/Sterndrives. Only towed in 3 other Merc since 1967. I realise I may have just been lucky, but that's my reality.
