1990 17ft capri 50 force problem

Hey All.
I am having problems with my boat/motor. When i get up on plane 9 times out of 10 the boat will lose speed and engine will start reving very high. as if it loses the water around the prop. I have tried with and without a fin.

We just bought the boat.

Any ideas? and is this a common problem?

Welcome to iboats!:cool:

The first thing to try is lowering the motor by one hole at the tilt bracket. If that doesn't help, you may have a spun prop. Paint a thin line with light-colored paint across the the prop hub. Run the boat. Then check to see if the line has remained unbroken. If not, the prop needs to be re-hubbed.
