What movie did Charlton Heston play a Mexican?

There is an old black and white movie that was set on the boarder with Mexico. Charlton Heston played a Mexican American detective. Also stared Orsen Wells (I think). A very long opening scene in the streets was memorable.

Does anyone know the name of this movie? I want to rent it, but can't find it under any list of movies Heston was in.

Yep that's it! "Touch of Evil". Thanks!

BTW, I believe that movie has the longest single take scene in movie history. It also was the first (or one of the first) movie where "driver in a car" scene was actually filmed live, not against a screen, lending realism.

For a 1950's movie, it is gritty, and shows corruption on the US side of the border.

Why they chose Heston to play a Mexican is beyond me.
