I have a 2005 Suzuki 140 and when I shift from forward to reverse or from reverse to forward the gears scrub. The transmission obivously isn't syncronized, but is scrubing normal? Could the idle be set to high? Thanks

Re: SuZuki gear scrubing

Idle should be in the 750RPM range. When you shift gears you are just engaging either forward or reverse clutch dogs in the gear box, no synchronizers like automotive. Don't baby it in and out of gear. Make a firm, deliberate "clunk" into gear. If you try to baby it into gear slowly then it can make a "grinding" sound, that if done correctly should be a "clunk" sound.
