hi there,

I was just wondering, if my 165 IL6 (GM 250 cu) has a chain or a belt to drive the camshaft.

Does anyone know?

Thanks for your help.

Best Regards, Popey

I would say CHAIN
belt drive cams are usually covered by a cheap plastic cover wherein the chain cam engines have a stamped metal cover.

the ford 2.3 liter has a belt, alot of japanese 4 cylinders have belts....
most of the 6 cylinders Ive ever seen have chains

(I was a dealer mechanic from 1986-1997)

hope that helps

some with metal gears
some with fiber gears

gear driven means no maintenance needed?
