Dumbest Question Ever

Allright, cover me, I going to ask...

Sea Ray 175, 2010 (used). Three controls under seat. I understand the fore/aft sliding control. That leaves a lever, a screw knob, and some other black plastic thing. It seems like I can loosen the screw, put the seat where I want it, and then tighten the screw. But, then it will not rotate.

How, exactly, does one work these controls?

Thanks,

Re: Dumbest Question Ever

No dumb questions here -- just a dumb answer now and then. The three controls are as follows:

1) Screw type knob. Does exactly what you said it does. Locks the seat from turning. some genius figured that it would be safer to lock the seat to prevent it from turning while under way. Good thought, but I can't say as anyone even knows the knob is there or if they do, won't use it.

2) One of the levers, exactly as you said, allows the seat to move forward and back just like your car.

3) If you stand up and flip the third lever up you will find that the seat will rise up to hit you in the back side. Sort of like a power seat in your car. If the seat is fully up and you flip the lever while seated, it will drop you down -- like a barber chair.

If the seat doesn't rise with no weight on it, the spring is probably broken, binding, or I'm off base with this dumb answer. But that's the way mine works. Seats can only work in three dimensions (up/down, fore/aft, and round about).

Re: Dumbest Question Ever

Can you post a picture of the lower part of the seat?

My seats have 5 controls:

1) A forward-aft slider lock just under the front of the seat.

2) A lever just under the edge on the side that locks or unlocks them for rotation.

3) A huge wingnut screw-clamp on the seat base that clamps the seat base to the adjustment column. Loosening this will also allow the seat to rotate, but the seat will lift off the seat column. This should be clamped and the rotation lever should be used to control rotation.

4) A spring-loaded knob close to the deck that drops into different holes for height adjustment.

5) A screw-down knob just above the spring-loaded knob that locks the height adjustment.

My seats don't automatically raise when you pull the height adjustment pins. But they do have the gravity-lowering feature if you pull the pin with the height clamp loosened!

Re: Dumbest Question Ever

Yeah my Chaparral had three different black plastic knob under there.
One was to slide the seat fore and aft, (That one stuck out the farthest, and was easily reachable with my right hand) the other was the height control,(it was way down low and could only be done while you were laying on the floor!) and the other controlled rotation. (it was to my left and not quite so easy to get to.)
I suspect yours are similiar.
Do what I did, get out of the seat, lie down on the floor and start loosening them up and see what happens!

Re: Dumbest Question Ever

After a very embarrassing first time out (got to meet the local PD), I spent the afternoon cleaning the boat. As I had the seats out anyway, I decided to take a picture to post here. Lo and behold, there is an instruction sticker UNDER THE SEAT! Bottom line, it looks like the picture 45Auto has posted (Thanks!) but without the height controls. There are 2 controls for swivel - friction and lock. Height - sit on your throw ring or don't.

Thanks to all who replied :)
