replacing brushes on older Minn Kota 60 trolling mtr

Trying to replace brushes. It impossible to get them back in. Do have have to remove the two magnets and if so how do I do that?? If not, how do I get the new brushes and springs in, recess the brushed so I can put the armature back in??

What I do is find a cardboard tube that is the same exterior diameter as the commutator ring. Cut it so it is about 1/4" in length. Place it between the brushes and then slide the motor together. The cardboard tube will keep the brushes apart until the commutator ring goes between the brushes and then stays behind the brush board. It wont cause any damage back there and you can leave it in place.
