89 OMC Cobra starts, but only has spark when I'm cranking the starter (as seen using visual spark tester). After I release the key, the engine stops immediately. Visual inspection of the ESA switches and linkage shows no issues. It seems like I loose power to the positive terminal on the coil.
Also seems that spark is somewhat intermittent when cranking. I'm thinking the coil gets it's juice from the starter solenoid but I can't quite decipher the wiring diagram I'm using (Clymer -- It's all I've got at the moment). I'm considering replacing the solenoid.
Background: I just replaced the head gaskets after an overheating event last season and subsequent compression loss. I could have missed something upon reassembly, but I'm not sure where to look.
