vhf and am/fm/cd prob

I just installed a new icon vhf radio and marine am/fm/cd in my boat.. weird thing.. when i key the mic up on the vhf radio... the am fm radio blanks out and goes to static ...


is this normal

Could even happen without a combo antenna. The VHF radio transmits fairly high power. Even though it transmits in another frequency band, it could be enough to saturate the input receiver of the stereo.

Absolutely true!!
Try it on low power, 5 watt or 1 watt setting if you have it and see if anything changes. Then you will know for sure. But this is very common occurrance.
