Was hoping somebody could direct me to a company that sells or refurbishes
the trim systems on these older boats. I have been having problems with the
system and my boat mechanic says he can't find anybody that sells parts for
this year. He said he can put on a new system from mercury for $2000.00!!!!
That includes the pump/motor, new lines and all the electrical plus new rams.
Sounds like to much to spend on a boat thats only worth twice that! Would
even be willing to try to find a newer boat that has hull damage with good
outdrive parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does anybody know of anyone in the central WI area that specializes in
mercuiser stern drives? Not looking for a lund dealer that deals in 98% outboards.

THANKS

Ayuh,.... What, Exactly are your problems,..??

iboats sells replacement pumps,+ rams...
Wiring is built from wires,...
You can do it All yourself for a few to several Hundred Bucks....

You can adapt the newer system to your drive,...
You get rid of the reverse lock, it's In the newer pumps...

Re: 74' mercruiser 165 tilt/trim parts

When triming down, the outdrive trims down very slow when your holding
the trim button. When you release the trim button the outdrive falls by itself.
It take a few seconds, but it falls all the way down. It trims up great. It goes
fast and stops all the way up. The outdrive also comes up when your under
power in reverse. I asked my mechanic about the reverse lock, and he said he
had it adjusted properly. The funny thing about this is that it didn't do that
before I took it in last fall to have new shifter/cables installed. I don't notice
any leaks from the hydrallic lines. They have all been replaced within the last
couple years. It does require adding fluid occasionally, so it must be leaking
somewhere. My mechanic thought that the outdrive rising while backing could
be caused by the rams leaking internally.

Thats what I was thinking! Any ideas about if this system is worth trying to
fix, or should I try to just upgrade to a newer system. If I could piece a whole new system together for less than $500-700 I would probably go that route. Just not sure where to start!!!!!!
