Sheesh...I know this must have been explained dozens of times...but a search is not giving friendly results right now....

I want to take a spark plug and drill it out to create an adapter for a cheap TDC Dial Indicator.

Porcelain is a challenge to drill through.

What sort of drill do I need?

Is this worth it? Can I but one cheap somewhere? The cheapest that I've found is this one:

Hopefully one of you can walk me through the drilling procedure ?

Thanks, Chuck

That's step by step alright....I'd never seen that page but thanks for the reference to it.

Now I can go to Harbor Freight and get a cheap (lets hope it's just inexpensive...but I imagine it will be **CHEAP**) dial indicator. For some reason the really cheap ones don't seem to come with the spark plug adapter...but now I'm all set with my home-made one.

Thanks so much for the reference!

A pencil will find TDC with no more disparity than the timing pointer is accurate.

A machinist supply house should have spark plug adapters for < $10. I bought several a few years ago in NJ.
