I have a 76' 233hp merc. that now stalls when going into reverse. Does not do it for fwd. The switch arm is out of the groove when put into reverse wich causes motor to shut off. This was fine all season and now something changed. Had to disconnect wire to switch so I would have control of boat coming in to dock.

Is there an adjustment I can make or did something break on the switch plate??

Re: Shift Interupt Switch

This means the upper shift shaft seal in the bellhousing is leaking. Crud has accumulated in the shift slider cavity and is stopping the slider moving all the way forward. That's what's causing the switch to be activated. The same crud will now have made its way its the lower shift cable, so that will need replacing too..

Do you have a service manual to explain how the job it done?
