Ladder Snaps

We have a 1994 Cobalt, the ladder on the back had a strap that kept the ladder up during non ladder use. The strap used a snap just the same as a canvas top, but the strap broke and we are going to fix it, my question is if I get a new strap with a female snap already installed I should be able to use the male snap that is attached to the boat, this male piece appears to be pop riveted on? Is that how the factory does it?

Just random info. You can buy DIY snap kits everywhere (even a small one @ a hardware store). Make sure you get stainless steel, and the strap is just flat webbing (harder to find, but still easy). I did this to make my own strap and then wound up making a few other straps on the boat to secure cushions, pillows, a throw able pfd to keep it out of the way but still in plain site--actually that one isn't exactly following the DNR rules, but it keeps it from blowing out of the boat--, a cooler strap, ect. My point is you WILL eventually need some more snaps (even if just to repair broken ones) and this may be an option to explore.

Jo Anne Fabric, or Michaels Crafts sells the snap kits in several different flavors. They also have the riviting tool if you want to rivit them together like factory. Cheap, easy to use, and as seaboo said, you'll find many other uses for them.
