I am new to this forum and find it quite useful. I am reading alot about impleller replacement and get the imporatnce. I have ordered a service manual for my engine and expect this to help. Can anyone tell me the basic procedure and level of difficulty to change the impeller on my unit??

Thanks in advance.

I have replaced the impeller in my sterndrive for each of the 2 seasons I have had my boat
86 140 hp merc with alpha stern drive.
Th book is a major help!! i suggest you buy the waterpump kit for about $40 vs just the impeller.
it contains all the gaskets and plates then you put in whats worn. 1st time took me 3hrs alone second time took me 1 1/2 hrs. no special tools are needed.
you will need to drain and rplace the oil in the lower unit. and need the pump if you dont have acess to one. its a hand type and takes a few mins per quart to refill.
good luck

Thanks for the quick response. I'll do that, I have the hand pump already. :)
