Trying to get lower unit off my 89' 70 HP Evinrude to replace water pump. Held up by shift linkage I think. Not sure how to disassemble linkage rod below carbs. Loosened 1/4" bolt on shaft but it won't slide off. There is a small pin maybe 1/8" that holds linkage together. Does that just drive out?

On my '77 70hp the pin you mention is part of the bolt that holds the linkage together. All I need to do is pull the bolt and the linkage falls apart.

Re: E70tlcem

Ive attached a photo of the linkage that slides on a "D" shaped shaft. The 1/4" bolt I was referring to is on the left side of the linkage arm vertically and the smaller pin is on the right side of the linkage arm running horizontally.

Look at the parts breakdown for your engine and it shows how the linkage goes togeather.

Thanks. Figured it out. Bolt had to come all the way out, shaft had a notch in it and wouldn't let is slide off.
