I have a 115/4 stroke yamaha outboard, it has a flush kit installed on motor. I know I am supposed to flush it after every use (Salt Water use) , but do I do it after the motor cools down? I am afraid of the hose water being too cold and damaging the motor. Also do I run it while flushing or Not running at all? I have been told not to run it and do it once the boat is back on the lift! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Yamaha 115/4 stroke flushing motor?

The flushing (garden hose type attachment) on your port side of the engine is for flushing the motor. DO NOT run the engine while using this attachment to flush the engine.

Link to Yahama Owners Manual online:

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/service/viewmanuals/outboard_manuals.aspx

You can search through this document for proper flushing procedures.

Also, you can purchase 'muffs' to connect to the lower unit and garden hose and flush engine while engine is running.

Re: Yamaha 115/4 stroke flushing motor?

This question comes up often. In my case I run the motor at idle for 10 mins. Been doing it for 3 yrs. now without a problem. Water will not circulate thru the powerhead unless the thermostat is open which requires the motor to be running. Is an 05 F115. FRED

over the years yamaha has said yes and no.
if you have good hose water pressure and IDLE ONLY it works well.
we do it all the time at IDLE ONLY.
the larger moptors we actually use both muffs and the flusher on the engine.
