I have a 1989 200 evinrude that will max out at 4800 RPM's. I believe the max range for this motor is 5500-5700. Is there a way to make sure the throttle is opening all the way up. If it is would a different prop help it to gain the extra RPM's. i believe it has a 19 pitch now. Any help would be greatly appriciated. thanks

Re: High RPM range for a 1989 200 evinrude

My 1990 200 hp runs at 5800. I don't have the book in front of me, but I believe the wide open spec. is 5400 - 5800.

Has it always run at that RPM or did it ever run higher?

Have you checked the compression?

Have you checked to make sure all 6 cylinders are firing and that all 6 plugs look good? If it used to run at ~5800 and is now ~4800, it could indicate one cylinder not firing for one reason or another. The absolute easiest scenario is that one cylinder is not firing and the cause is a fouled plug. That's the first thing I'd check.

Of course there could be other reasons, but that's about all I have experience and knowledge of.
