I downloaded the brute manual for my non-breakaway mount and I am scratching my head.

-Does the decker have to be attached and supported by the bow or can it hang over the edge of the boat?

-my bow is 3/4 11-ply sealed with varnish....do I need a steel backer plate or are big washers enough?

Big washers are sufficient as a backer. Don't know what you are referring to when you say "Decker". When you install the motor, put the motor in the deployed position and then position the rest of the rig on the bow so the shaft clears the bow. Then mark the mounting holes and bolt it down.

Thanks for the reply....the word decker came from the motorguide install manual (they really need to redo the manual)

The decker is the black plastic thing that is about 4" and sits at the edge of the boat closest to the edge (tip of gator mount).

The motor mount has 4 holes to attach it to the deck + t more where the decker thing is. Does the deck part get bolted to the boat?
