My 2005 Mercury 50hp Outboard starts fine and runs good.

It does not Pump Water and or Propeller does not spin when in foward nor reverse.

I did not hit anything it just stopped moving.

If you have any knowledge on this problem it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Re: Mercury 50hp Question

The prop not turning if FWD or REV and no pumping of water are directly related, since the water pump (impeller) and the lower unit run off the same shaft. Sounds to me at the least you will need to pull the lower unit off an inspect the shaft. There should be some splines at the end that goes up into the motor need to see if those are in good condition. Also if possible inspect were the shaft splines mates to the motor. Seems pretty obvious that the shaft is not spining.

Re: Mercury 50hp Question

Dekpends on what's damaged. It could be very expensive. If the splines have been striped out of the crankshaft thats expensive. If the drive shaft is broken or the splines on it have been damaged that is still expensive but not nearly as bad as the crankshaft.

Dropping the lower unit is what your gonna have to do, start there and fill us in what you see, maybe post some photos.
