I have a 1990 Bayliner Capri with a 5.0l Mercruiser I am wondering what the two cable on the shifter/ Throttle are forI am not sure i have them connected correctly. WHen i throttle forward or back its seems there is a lot of play before the cable actually engages the throttle linkage on the carb and the second cable never seems to move. the second cable appears to connect to another cable on the exhaust log. this boat is currently not running but I am working on it. Therefore i cannot feild test anything I am merely attempting to get connections at least where they should be first.

Re: SHift/Throttle Cables

The shift cable will move first, then when it is fully moved the throttle cable will move. The throttle cable only moves one direction from N regardless of which way you move the shifter. The Shift cable will be centered and move one way or the other depending on F or R.

Cables are NOT made to be lubed and if they are stiff or hard to move they have wear damage on the inside and need to be replaced.

The 3rd cable, the one that goes from the converter (where the other cable hook up to it) is, to the lower or short shift cable is the most often to go bad and requires the drive and bellhousing to be removed to replace.

Thanks i may have them backwards then... because the throttle is moving forward and reverse and the second cable is not moving
