My brother picked up a 1980 15hp Gamefisher the other day and I have a few questions I hope can be answered. I have very little experience with outboards but this one seems to run pretty hot. The pee hole seems to be directly below the motor and the stream turns to hot mist pretty quickly.

Is this because of the close location to the head? Looking for any help into getting this motor running.

Sorry , the stream/steam is comming from the small hole in the upper right corner or the pictures.

Hoping its just an impeller issue. Found a lot of info on the net and seems to be a pretty straight forward fix. Now just have to convince my brother that.

Re: 1980 15hp Gamefisher

Ok so me and my brother will be trying to fix this friday night and I just want to make sure I am taking off the right part. Attaching a picture of the 2 bolts I think we have to take off to get to the impeller. Any advice you all have before we attempt this would be great.

thanks
k

I think you may be looking at the wrong bolts. The bolts you are looking for should be around the cavatition plate ( the plate just above the prop.) Should have 4 to 6 screws that hold the lower unit and one screw on the shift lever rod that goes to the gear case behind the prop.

There don't seem to be that many bolts holding this lower unit together. Posting pics of the one other spot it looks like it will come apart.

thanks for taking a look

The one bolt and one nut shown in your last pictures are all that have to be removed along with the little side plate that has two slotted screws for access to the shift rod which has one 1/4 inch hex screw.Make sure you have the water tube lined up with the pump before you try pushing the lower unit up to seat the drive shaft.Just did this on mine yesterday.getting the drive shaft in took some patience.Good luck.

Thanks for the info , never did this before so I'm sure I'll be posting again. Getting everything back together the right way is what I figure will take the longest.

Impeller went in fine but ...

Motor ran well for a bit , ran cooler then just quit. We took off the carb to see how that looked and might have found the problem. Just wondering what this orange tubish thing is and if its supposed to be cut.

First pic is where the tube sits.

Second pic is the tube itself showing where its cut.

That's the fuel pump bladder. It must be intact to keep running without having to pump the fuel bulb constantly. Should be able to pick one up at any small engine shop that's worth its salt since it's common to so many Tecumseh products.
Just don't tell the parts man that it came from an outboard lest you see the curtain of intelligence fall from his eyes and hear him mutter "Sorry, I can't help you".

When you install it tilt it 45 degrees off of vertical with the top of the slit leaning in toward the carb throat.

Since you've already discovered two major rubber components that were shot before you try to crank it again replace all fuel lines with new ones that can tolerate ethanol. Or never leave the dock without oars nor go further than you want to row.

There are a couple sellers on ebay that have the parts you need.
One seller is jele3 and the other is eskaman2008.They have the element or complete kits with the element, flapper valve and gaskets.OR search ebay for gamefisher or eska parts.

Re: 1980 15hp Gamefisher

Brother is going to check in at Napa tomorrow. Checked a couple smaller shops and they didn't have it so he decided to check a marine repair shop and the guy wanted $80 an hour to look the part up.(normal?)

Only other problem is he broke the fitting where the gas goes into the carb when he tried to get the hose off. Might be able to get that out , looks like it might be pressed in?

again thanks
