In the late 70's and early 80's how did wellcraft, cobia, and regal 20-22' cuddy boats compare? I need your opinions.

They were all made of fiberglass, wood, and vinyl. Any differences in brands are going to be irrelevent after 30 years. How well they were taken care of and maintained will make one better than the other.

Although there were some structural differences between builders, as there are today, what 45 said holds true. Lots of wood in them with the potential for transom, deck and stringer rot. Boston Whaler is a good bet in an older boat but even then you need to look for soaked foam.
