i need to replace the throttle cable for my 94 suzuki DT40. the jacket has split and everything has rusted inside and looks like it is about to break. my question is, what brand/type of cable do i buy? are they universal? i recently pulled out the steering cable and it was a 12' teleflex. does this mean the throttle cable should also be about 12'? it says "Supreme Red Jacket" on it. what does this mean?

Re: replacing throttle cable

That means it is a Teleflex Supreme Red Jacket. If you look at the end near the engine it may say how long it is either in ft. or inches.

No it will not be the same as your steering cable but could be by chance not design.

There are several different ends that cables have so you need to get the right one. Take your out or swing the boat by a dealer/shop and have them tell you what cable you need.
