Getting to a stage of a crossroad..Is there anything I could use to surpress noise on my hull...Thought of a sound deadner spray (automotive) but do not know how that would apply in marine apps...Trying to stay away from foam...Any ideas welcomed!

Thanks,Pete

Re: Hull Sound Deadner

Depends on the type of hull.

2 part foam, carpet or even roofing membrane could do it.

I used all of those on my jon boat and it's very quite. Roofing membrane is heavy so don't go overboard using it.

On the sound dampner spray  I've never used that product before but $16/can seems like a ripoff. I've used rubberized car undercoating for sound dampening before, $3-4/can. Only downside is the stuff is stinky until it outgasses.

If you coat the hull with about an inch thick layer of mortar or concrete, the noise level will go way down.

Alternatively, look up "dynamat" on google.

Essentially you want to install something that either absorbs sound like foam or acoustic tile, or blocks and reflects it. The first will be lighter.

I have to ask, what exactly are you trying to accomplish with the sound dampening material? Engine noise, wave noise on hull, interior noise?
