Re-waterproofing boat cover

My new procraft has a custom cover (fitted over trolling motor and windshield). I really like the cover as it has the procraft insignia on it, and despite being 5 years old, the boat was never stored outside so the cover looks perfect. The downside, in last night's torrential downpour, it leaked miserably. It fits perfectly, no low spots - so the water just went through the cover.

As I said, I really like the cover and don't want to replace it with a cheapy - and after buying the boat can't afford a new custom cover. Question is, is there a way to re-waterproof it from the inside?

Thanks!

Re: Re-waterproofing boat cover

I have heard many people talk about a product called 303 that is a very good water proofer. Only downside I have hard is that it is kind of pricey. Most suggest spraying the inside of the covers so sun doesn't break it down.

The menacing campaigns that drive the New York Escort corporate spyware and adware market is developing way out of hand. Who are these companies and how do they New York Escorts get away with it? They are costing computer users millions with their sneakware system of promotional crap!We have New York Asian Escort some serious problems. These narcissistic bugger programmers that develop application and browser hijackers, pop-up pushers, adware scam New York Asian Escort and other bogus blots of code that only make life worse, need to be taught a lesson or two.

Somebody needs to get rid of this freak quick.

i can testify to using the 303 fabric protectant. Just 2 weeks ago I applied it to my covers. As we just had tropic storm Bonnie come through i can report that the water just beaded up and ran off of the covers.
the product itself is not expensive $20 for 32 oz here on iboats it is the shipping that hurts. :(

Thanks for the info. 303 sounds like the stuff. I'm headed over to Boat US today at lunchtime to grab a couple other items and will see if they carry it. If not, it's off to the internet shopping I go! Thanks again.

John, wait! The waterproofer sold at WalMart (used to have a bright orange lid) back in their camping section is a great product, that works well, and doesn't cost a lot. I hope you read this before you went out and spent a ton more on 303. Although 303 is a great product, the WalMart stuff is a better value, due to its much lower price. Good luck.

Scotchguard is the stuff to use. Walmart sels their storebrand of Scotchguard for $8 or so. I use it on my canvas duck covers and ski jacket and pants.

Nope, haven't been shopping yet. Been researching the 303 a bit. Noticed they have a "303 Aerospace Protectant" and a "303 Faric Guard" (as well as several others). Which are people using on their covers? I'll look into the walmart branded ones as well - the one thing I know to stay from is Silicone based water proofers. I have used those on my motorcycle jackets before. They do a decent job waterproofing, but attract dust and dirt. Thanks again.

Cabelas also sells Canvak and I have heard it works great. Take a look at that, I am getting some for my cover.

Don't use Thompsons Water Seal. It can dry to a hard finish if too thick and it's not made for fabric.

Use the 303 if you can. The stuff at Wal-mart is OK. Or go to a Army-Navy or camping store and get "Camp Dry". It's a spray can application and works great.

Scotch Guard will work until it gets wet and then needs to be reapplied.

Re: Re-waterproofing boat cover

For many years I've used the MaryKate fabric waterproofer on my Sunbrella covers. Look for it online. A few months ago I got it for $35/gallon including shipping. I apply it with a small garden sprayer and wet both sides for complete coverage.
