Great site and forums!i've used it for quite awhile
This is my first post,as i just registered today (newbie)
I've been a mechanic for yrs.But o.b.'s have got me relearning everything!
Anyway...I have a Tahiti? Not sure,guess it doen't really matter,which had a Volvo outboard.
Yes,it was an outboard!I changed motors because parts were impossibe to find.
I went with a 1988 85hp Force model #856X8B 3cyl.
All went well until i went to hook up the wiring to the motor.my boat has 3 sets of wires going to the motor.
1-red & black 2-yellow & white 3-3 blacks.
The motor terminal is as follows:
1-start-yellow from motor is here
2-tach- purple is here
3-magneto-white& black here
4-choke-green is here
5-heat-orange is here
6-batt-red is here
7,8&9 are bussed together
7-magneto-nothing here
8-ground-blue is here
9-nothing

I'm pretty sure where they go but i don't want to confuse the issue by speculating or hooking them up wrong,as i just installed a $200.00 stator.By the way which wires do i have to be the most careful with to avoid frying the stator?

any and all help will be greatly appreciated
thanks and have a great day!

Ok,i answered my own question, just needed alittle more time thats all.
The yellow coming from the boat which should have been to the "start" terminal was the choke wire from the keywitch.
The white from the boat which i would have thought went to the magneto actually went to the "start".
Glad i checked it out before frying my new $300. Stator and coil.
THE REST ARE JUST WHAT THEY SHOULD BE RED=BATT.
BLACK= ENGINE GROUND
3 BLACKS=TERMINAL GROUNDS
