Hi All,

I have a 1989 Merc 80 hp 3 cylinder, serial # 0A752169. My Rectifier is bad, so I am going to replace it. I was looking at the wires connected to it and there are as follows:
top post: labeled alt, has two yellow wires connected to it.
middle post; labeled tach, has one grey wire connected.
bottom post: labeled alt, had two yellow wires connected to it.

shouldn't there be a red wire connected to it somewhere? If so, from where does that red come from?
Thank you for the help.

One more thing...I am going to replace this rectifier with sierra #18-5707, which I believe is the correct replacement part.

In this drawing 'j' is the rectifier, and yes, that is the right sierra part number.

Those clymer and solec manuals need to be banned from sale!!!!!

Download a genuine manual HERE, password for the file is <ribforum>. I use 7-Zip to decompress it.
