My buddies boat is not getting spark it has a 86 305 gm in it. It ran fine last year and then started for about 30 seconds this year but now its not getting spark. Any suggestions?
i would first check the kill switch or lanyard and make sure it is engages fully if it has one i had one go bad one time and it killed it dead .... then check the voltage to coil with the key in the on position the positive side of the coil should have 12 or more volts .... points are cheap coil not too bad and either is the condensor if you have voltage and the points have a gap i would replace all three ... and another suggestion is to go to hot spark.com and check out their solid state ignition to replace the points and condensor ... the one i just installed was almost as cheap as the points and condensor and just installs in the place where the points go so its an easy install
