Hit a rock

My roomate has a 2007 Sea Ray with a 4.3 V6 190 hp Mercruiser. He was driving and we were accelerating out of a no wake at max power and hit a rock. It dinged up two of the fins on the prop. We replaced the prop with an identical prop. But we are thinking there might be some other damage because the engine sounds louder now. Almost like the exaust is being vented above water. Also it is missing just a little bit of its power. It takes a little bit longer to get planed out and its max RMP is now 200 RMPs less. We cannot feel any vibrations. Any Ideas on what could be wrong? Also can it be driven at this point or are we just asking for more trouble?

Howdy,

Aluminum prop? (no vibration) you probably didn't bend the shaft.

It's unlikely that the 'miss' would be caused by hitting a rock unless you turned the key OFF under power and possibly sucked some water into the engine on the rapid slowdown/shutdown.

Also the new prop may be cupped or designed a little different than the original. This can cause a change in RPM.

Check the exhaust bellow for cracks or torn areas. That would make it louder.

It was an alumnium prop. Thanks for the advise I will check out the exhaust for cracks.
