Hi,
I've perused the forums but I can't search on 'spl' or '88' as they're too short, so I apologize for the basic questions.

Just picked up a '92 (?) 16' Marlin w/a '92 Johnson 88 spl for $800.

- Boat spent its early years in Puget Sound - salt water - and has spent much of the last few years sitting on the trailer (under a tarp) in freshwater territory...It has been run in freshwater since brought over from the coast.
- Runs w/muffs on but only w/ choke. Haven't put it in the water yet.
- Plugs are wet (not a surprise!)

What I would like to know, please:
1. What are interchangeable years for the '92, regarding Service Manuals ? I've found some on ebay for close years ('88 & '95) much cheaper than my '92.

2. I'd like to start fresh w/the plugs (already have) and oil change. But since I don't have the manual yet, is there a 'How To' for changing the crankcase oil and gear oil? I read to fill from the 'lower hole' on the lower unit, how do I do that w/out it pouring out?

3. Should I change the Thermostat / TS and Water Pump / Impeller? (Job is described as a PITA by more than one person on here.) Or are there symptoms to watch out for 1st?

4. Seafoam in the gas tank good enough or should it be fed directly into the carbs/intake somehow? To de-carbon the pistons, I presume.

5. DA question of the day - Older Outboards do NOT have an air filter, correct?

6. Are there any online resources for tops, including the support brackets/bracing to attach to the existing rails on the boat?

Thanks for any/all replies.
