Hey guys,
I have a 40 year old aluminium hull that has oxidation. I am trying to remove the oxidation and have tried many things including acid based washes and other high strength washes. However the oxidation is a chalky substance that i have so far, not been able to remove. The hull will be painted once the oxidation is removed. Any ideas on how to remove the oxidation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jayce.:D

Re: Oxidation Removal

Welcome to iboats.

That oxidation is a salt reaction with the aluminum. I would try to lightly sand it off and also use a green pad to scrub it.

You are going to be painting so you might as well do it right, sand, prime then paint.

That Toon Bright is nothing more then hydrochloric and sulphuric acid.

Re: Oxidation Removal

Thanks Bob I have been told that an orbital buffer with a wool pad should also remove it? What grit sandpaper would you recommend?
Thanks,
Jayce

If you are going to paint 220 or finer will do a great job.
